Abstract:

Objective

To compare the clinical effects of modular rigid combined flexible ureteroscopy and percntaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) for 2-3 cm renal pelvis stones.

Methods

From April 2014 to April 2016, 87 patients with renal pelvis stones (sized 2-3 cm) underwent either modular rigid combined flexible ureteroscopy (n=40) or PCNL (n=47) were accessed. The operative time, postoperative hospital stay time, stone-free rate and complications were analyzed and compared between the two groups.

Results

There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in preoperative general data. In terms of stone-free rate, there was no significant difference between modular rigid combined flexible ureteroscope group and PCNL group (P>0.05). However, the operative time and the postoperative hospital stay time in the modular rigid combined flexible ureteroscope group were significantly less than those of the PCNL group (P<0.05). What’s more, the intraoperative blood loss and postoperative fever rate in the modular rigid combined flexible ureteroscope group were less than those in the PCNL group (P<0.05).

Conclusions

Modular rigid combined flexible ureteroscopy are safe and effective for 2-3 cm renal pelvic stone. It has advantages of shorter operative time, less trauma, faster recovery, and less complications.
