Abstract:

Objective

To explore the expression of TGF-β1 and CTGF in chronic prostatitis (CP) and its correlation with chronic prostatitis symptom index (CPSI).

Methods

WBC, TGF-β1 and CTGF from expressed prostatic secretion (EPS) were detected by ELISA in mild group (n=38), moderate group (n=31), severe groups (n=17), and control group (n=30) according to the NIH-CPSI. The correlation among NIH-CPSI, EPS-WBC, TGF-β1 and CTGF were analyzed.

Result

Compared with control group, the proportion of EPS-WBC (++~++++) count in CP group was significantly increased (P<0.05). There was no significant difference on the EPS-WBC count among different NIH-CPSI score of CP patients (P>0.05). The proportion of EPS-WBC (++~++++) count in type Ⅲ of CP group was significantly higher than that in type Ⅱ (P<0.05). Compared with control group, the levels of TGF-β1 and CTGF also increased CP group. With the increase of symptom severity, levels of TGF-β1 and CTGF was also significantly increased (P<0.05). There was a positive correlation between levels of TGF-β1 and CTGF, levels of TGF-β1 and CTGF was positively correlated with NIH-CPSI (P<0.05).The levels of TGF-β1 and CTGF had no significant correlation with EPS-WBC count (P>0.05).

Conclusions

The levels of TGF-β1 and CTGF in CP patients are highly expressed, and closely correlated with NIH-CPSI. Combination detection of TGF-β1 and CTGF may contribute to evaluate the severity of CP.
