Abstract:

Objective

To evaluate the safety and effect of bilateral same-session flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy (FURL) in the treatment of bilateral renal and/or ureter stone disease.

Methods

The data of patients undergoing bilateral same-session flexible ureteroscopy with holmium laser lithotripsy for bilateral renal and/or ureter stones between February 2017 and July 2019 were analyzed retrospectively. The clinical data included operation time, stone free rate and occurrence of complications, and so on.The success rate was defined as, patients who were stone-free or only had residual fragments <4 cm.

Results

A total of 33 patients (26 male, 7 female), with a mean age of (42±13) years, were included. The mean stone size was (3.48±1.11) cm, operative time was (89±36) min. The stone-free rate were 69.7% and 81.8% after the first and second procedures, respectively. There were minor complications (Clavien-Dindo gradeⅠ-Ⅱ) in 7 patients (21.2%) and major complications (Clavien-Dindo grade Ⅲ) in two patients (6%).

Conclusion

Same-session bilateral FURL is a successful and safe method for bilateral upper urinary tract stones.
