Abstract:

As a common device in Urology, ureteral stents can effectively dilate the ureter, promote the smooth flow of urine, and help to relieve ureteral obstruction. However, the use of ureteral stents may also cause a series of side effects and complications, the most common of which is stent crusting. This phenomenon can easily lead to stent brittleness or even fracture, and increase the risk of ureteral avulsion during extubation. At the same time, the formation of sediment may also hinder urine drainage and cause damage to the ureter. This article reviews the mechanism, risk factors and related research progress of ureteral stent crusting.
