Abstract:

Objective

To evaluate the safety and efficacy of 1 470 nm laser for senior and high risk patients with superficial bladder cancer.

Methods

From October 2014 to Januray 2015, a total of 32 cases of senior and high risk patients with superficial bladder cancer were treated with 1 470 nm laser in our hospital. The number of tumor was one to three. The diameter of the tumor was (1.12±0.23) cm. All cases were treated by chemistry irrigation, and follow up with cystoscope.

Results

All patients underwent operations successfully and the volume of bleeding was (20±5) ml. The operating time was (31±12) minutes. No patients required blood transfusion, and no complications such as obturator nerve reflex, bladder perforation and overhydration occurred. The time of continuous bladder irrigation was (5.1±1.3) h. There was no secondary hemorrhage. Seven days after the operation, the catheter was removed. All the patients were pathologically confirmed to be urothelial carcinoma by biopsy with the pathology grade G1-G2 and clinical stage Ta, T1. The patients were followed up from 6 to 18 months. One year after the operation, the tumor recurred in 8 patients. No urethral stricture and other complication occurred.

Conclusion

1 470 nm laser in the treatment of senior and high risk patients with superficial bladder cancer is safe, effective and minimally invasive.
