Abstract:

Objective

To compare effect of ureteroscopic rigid and flexible ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy for the patients with upper ureteral calculi.

Methods

A total of 120 patients with upper ureteral calculi admitted to Panzhihua Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Hospital from February 2014 to February 2019 were divided into two groups. There were 70 patients underwent rigid ureteroscopic lithotripsy and 50 treated with flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy. The operation time, hospitalization costs, success rate of primary lithotripsy, bowel sound recovery time, defecation time, hospital stay and incidence f complications were compared between the two groups.

Results

The success rate of primary lithotripsy in the flexible group was higher than that in the rigid group. The recovery time of bowel sounds, defecation time and hospital stay in the rigid group were higher than those in the flexible group. The differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The operation time and the incidence rate of complications in the two groups were similar. The differences were not statistically significant (P>0.05).

Conclusion

Flexible ureteroscopy is superior to rigid ureteroscopy in the treatment of upper ureteral calculi.

Key words: Ureteral calculi, Flexible ureteroscope, Rigid ureteroscope
