Effect of contrast-enhanced ultrasound transrectal targeted prostate biopsy in patients with PSA4-10 ng/ml

Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the role of contrast-enhanced ultrasound transrectal targeted prostate biopsy(CETRUS-PB) in patients with PSA 4-10 ng/ml.

Methods

82 patients with PSA 4-10 ng/ml were divided into two groups on a voluntary basis: systematic transrectal ultrasound prostate biopsy (STRUS-PB) group and CETRUS-PB group from January 2016 to December 2018 in Central Hospital of Panyu District. The biopsy efficiency, VAS and complications were compared between the two groups.

Results

The positive rate of STRUS-PB group and CETRUS-PB group in PSA 4-10 ng/ml patients had no significant difference (P=0.147). There was significant difference in the number of biopsy needles, Gleason score and VAS between the two groups (P<0.001). There was no serious complications in both groups.

Conclusions

In patients with PSA 4-10 ng/ml, CETRUS-PB can not significantly improve the positive rate of prostate biopsy compared with STRUS-PB, but it may improve the accuracy of biopsy, reduce the number of biopsy needles and reduce pain.
