Analysis of the clinical characters of prostate calcification in physical examination population

Abstract:

Objective

To explore the age distribution, ultrasonic features and the common clinical characters of the prostate calcification participants among physical examination.

Methods

14 000 participants who had accepted an ultrasonography examination in the Centre of Health Management of Shenzhen Hospital of Southern Medical University were recruited to the physical examination cohort. The clinical characters of the age distribution, ultrasonic features and clinical characters of the participants were studied by retrospective analysis.

Results

Ultrasonography detected prostate calcification in 1 788 persons (35.0%) from 5 110 persons who had received examination of ultrasonography. The prevalence number of 20-29 years old, 30-39 years old, 40-49 years old and 50-80 years old were 228(31.5%), 899(57.2%), 503(40.5%) and 158(10.1%) respectively. There were 186 persons complicated with urinary frequency and urgency (10.4%), 104 with painful urination (5.9%), 7 with hematuria (0.4%) and 55 with sexual dysfunction (3.1%).

Conclusions

The incidence of prostate calcification varied among age groups. The prevalence rate of 30-39 years old was the highest. The incidence of the complication with prostate calcification is low, and persons with asymptomatic prostate calcification may not require further treatment. Some persons with prostate calcification had complication need further health management to improve their life quality.
