Abstract:

Objective

To analyze the relationship between plasma fibrinogen level and clinicopathological characteristics of prostate cancer. The value of plasma fibrinogen in early progress of prostate cancer was investigated.

Methods

A retrospective analysis of clinical and pathological data from 456 patients with prostate cancer(PCa) and 322 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH) in Zhujiang Hospital who met the study criteria from January 2006 to December 2017 was performed. Age, body mass index (BMI), fibrinogen (FIB), Gleason score, total prostate specific antigen (tPSA), free prostate specific antigen (fPSA), free prostate specific antigen percentage (f/tPSA), clinical T stage (cT), presence or absence of lymph node metastasis, presence or absence of bone metastasis and risk stratification were collected and analyzed. SPSS 19.0 software package was used to analyze the correlation between the fibrinogen and the above indexes.

Results

The preoperative plasma FIB median in group PCa and BPH were 3.52 g/L (IQR, 2.97-4.35) and 3.12 g/L (IQR, 2.61-3.45), respectively. The plasma FIB was significantly increased in patients with PCa compared to patients with BPH (P<0.05). The preoperative plasma fibrinogen level was significant positively correlated with age, tPSA, Gleason score, cT stage (P<0.05).

Conclusion

Preoperative plasma fibrinogen level in patients with prostate cancer was associated with tumor pathological score, clinical T stage and related serum indicators, which can be combined with relevant imaging and laboratory examination results to predict the disease progression and outcome of patients.
